Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, captain of Team Vitality's CS2 roster, has spoken publicly about the prospect of ending his career as a professional player. His comments were reported by HLTV.org.
apEX noted that he has been playing Counter-Strike for around 20 years and believes there will come a time to stop. He said that with such a long career it is important to choose the right moment to retire — not to step away while the team is still winning, because that would leave him with regrets. At the same time, he emphasized that when you keep winning, it becomes difficult to stop.
He added that he will continue to push to win as often as possible and then reassess when that run comes to an end. apEX also revealed that he is currently reviewing his contract with Vitality and that extension talks are underway; the intention is to extend for a few more years, but the exact duration will depend on the team’s future results and how long they can maintain a high level of performance.
Earlier, apEX commented that he does not necessarily see himself moving into a coaching role after retiring as a player. He explained that becoming a coach might not change his daily life enough to justify the switch, leaving open the possibility that his post-playing path could be something other than coaching.
