Paramount Pictures has unveiled a promotional announcement titled "Legacy" connected to the upcoming horror film Scream 7. The announcement references characters and moments from earlier entries in the franchise alongside material tied to the new installment.
The production of Scream 7 has been marked by a string of personnel issues. In November 2023 the studio dismissed Melissa Barrera, who had played one of the principal roles in the two previous films, citing her political statements as the reason. The following day, Jenna Ortega—another leading actress associated with the recent entries—declared she was leaving the project because of a scheduling conflict. Shortly thereafter, director Christopher Landon exited the production as well.
In March 2024 the studio confirmed that Neve Campbell will return to the role of Sidney Prescott. Campbell originated the part in the original film and has appeared in nearly every sequel; she had declined to participate in the sixth installment after arguing that the compensation offered did not reflect her contribution to the franchise.
The announcement also named Kevin Williamson as the director of the new film. Williamson is the screenwriter behind the first two Scream movies and will take the helm for this installment.
Paramount has scheduled the release of Scream 7 for February 27, 2026. The studio's recent statements frame the project as both a continuation of the series' legacy and a fresh chapter guided by legacy creative talent.
