20th Century Studios has officially announced the upcoming sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2. The studio has released key details about the project and confirmed the involvement of several principal cast members and creators from the original film.
According to the synopsis, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) is fighting to keep her magazine afloat as print journalism continues to decline. Her only apparent lifeline is an advertising partnership with a firm headed by Emily (Emily Blunt). Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci are confirmed to be returning to their roles from the first film.
The production has reunited original collaborators behind the camera as well: David Frankel returns as director and Aline Brosh McKenna is credited as the screenwriter. Both were authors on the 2006 film and are now leading the creative team for the sequel.
The first film premiered in 2006 and remains a notable cultural touchstone; it holds a user rating of 6.9 out of 10 on IMDb and 7.7 out of 10 on the Kinopoisk site. Stanley Tucci has previously spoken about the challenges he faced finding work after the original film and admitted he had to accept parts he did not particularly like.
The sequel is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026. Further casting and production details are expected to be announced as the project progresses.
