Examining Viewer Metrics: which Dota 2 streamers show signs of inflated viewership and what the data actually says
The discussion about artificially inflated viewer counts has reached the esports community. The issue was first raised by blogger Stepan Morf, who pointed to what he considered unusual activity on the livestreams of several Dota 2 content creators, including Timur "TpaBoMaH" Khafizov, Vladislav "DkFogas" Frolov, Stanislav "633" Glushan and others. Afterward, our team checked several Counter-Strike 2 streamers and found possible bot accounts among the audiences of Maxim "QRUSH" Ilyushin, Nikita "ANASTAZE" Abramkin, Sergey "airscape" Marochkin and others. Morf said he would publish more statistics later, and rather than wait for that follow-up, we decided to run our own checks.
